COACHING INFORMATION
Coaching can be an incredibly rewarding experience. If you love the game of netball and would like to become a Coach please see email us at contact@tallebudgeranetball.org.
Blue Cards
It is a requirement that all Coaches over 18 years MUST have a valid Blue Card. If you currently have one and it is due for renewal, or to apply for a card please click here and follow the instructions. Blue cards are valid for 3 years unless suspended or cancelled. There are no costs involved in applying for a Blue Card as a volunteer.
Minimum Number of Players and Fill-Ins
The majority of the below is in accordance with HDNA bylaws. Some are Tallebudgera Netball Club rules as decided by the Executive Committee.
Minimum Number of Players
A team may not take the court if it has less than 5 of the original registered players. If you only have 4 players available, your team must forfeit the game.
In the event of a team being late to take the court, a 3 minute grace period is allowed. The opposing captain may claim a forfeit if the team is unable to field at least 5 players on the commencement signal or after the period of grace.
Fill in Players
When a team is short players they can ask a player from a lower ranked division team in the same age group or from a team in a younger age group to fill in for them. However the original players in the team should take the court at all times unless they are unable to play due to illness or injury. You cannot use fill in players during the semi, prelim or final games.
If you have 5 original players you can have up to 2 fill-ins.
If you have 6 original players you can only have 1 fill-in.
If you have 7 original players you cannot have a fill-in.
The rules of netball allows you to continue to play with only 5 players, which takes into account up to 2 of your 7 players being injured or unwell during the game.
If you are uncertain that one of your players is, for example, unwell or coming back from an injury and may not be able to play a whole game, the Coach must decide (or confirm with the parent) whether or not that unwell player is fit for a whole game. If it is decided they are not fit for a whole game then you can have a fill-in but that fill-in must play half a game and the unwell player must come off.
A player cannot fill in for another team in their division even if it is a Tallebudgera team eg 11A to 11A.
Players are only permitted to fill in twice in total. If a Player fills in more than twice for any team, they will not be permitted to play for their original team again. They will automatically become a part of the team for which they fill in the third time. Filling in during grading games does not count towards the 2 times.
As players can only fill in twice you have to be conscious of using up one of those times when it is not necessary.
You may not use players from another Club within the competition to fill in for your team.
A Netsetgo 10 year old player may only play up to fill in for a Junior 11 year old team once during the season.
It is the Player’s responsibility to tell their Coach that they intend on filling in for another team. The Coach should make a note of this in their Coaches book.
Coaches using a fill-in need to check with the fill-in player that they have told their existing Coach. Parents should not “volunteer” their child to fill in without following the above procedure.
Your team could lose points or be disqualified. Other teams notice when you have fill in players.
A fill-in’s name must be written on the scoresheet, they need to sign and write the name of their original team.
Unregistered fill-ins
An unregistered player can fill in once to be covered by insurance. The unregistered fill-in must attend the HDNA office prior to taking the Court to sign an indemnity form. The unregistered fill-in must also write their name on and sign the scoresheet.
Semi, Prelim and Grand Finals
(For Monday night and Junior Competitions only)
Semi Finals – 1 v 2 (winner straight to Grand Final) 3 v 4 (loser eliminated)
Pre Lims – Loser of 1 v 2 plays winner of 3 v 4
Grand Finals – Winner of Pre Lim plays winner of 1 v 2 Semi Final
Trophies will be awarded to winners and runners-up only
If a team forfeits any final or is penalised for any infringement of the Constitution and By- Laws, it forfeits the right to continue in those finals or to be named runner up.
Coaches Information for teams making the finals
During finals, Coaches will decide how much court time each Player receives, based on the best interests of the team. Availability for matches and training attendance may also impact on a Player’s court time during finals. However, all Players must play at least one quarter of the finals games. You cannot use fill in players during the semi, prelim or final games.
All Players taking the court must be registered and have played a minimum of 5 games or one third of the competition for that team. Grading games do not count toward this qualification. If a team wins on a forfeit that game counts toward this qualification. You cannot use fill in players.
When signing the score sheet Players must use the same signature they used when they signed the team sheet at the start of the season. Signatures are checked by HDNA.
Players must wear the Tallebudgera Netball Club approved uniform.
Players need to check the velcro on their uniforms to ensure the bibs do not fall off during the game. The team may have to change to over the shoulder bibs if the positions cannot easily be identified (coaches, please ensure you have a set of over the shoulder bibs and a 2nd set of patch bibs if you are using rolling subs).
Each team must have a scorer who stands in the scorers box. For grand finals the umpires will bring a timer to court and each team must have a time keeper (it is best to sort out who will do this before the day so they know what is required).
Team and Player Registrations
Teams may register up to 9 (or 10 upon Committee approval) players at any one time.
At the start of the season the team sheets and a registration sheet must be fully completed with all details as requested.
Players must sign the score sheet with the same signature as per the registration card each week.
Failure to comply with the above can result in a team penalty of loss of points.
All players must be fully registered before taking the court.
Games consist of 4 x 10 minute quarters.
A team must forfeit if 5 registered team members do not take the court within 3 minutes of commencement of the game.
If a team gives sufficient notice of its intent to forfeit HDNA will notify the opposing team. If the opposing team has a player who needs to qualify for finals, the Win of Forfeit points will count.
